GLA's Musical

GLA Musical Lisa Schutte - SmallGlobal Leadership Academy's drama and art departments are going from strength to strength. After recently welcoming back drama teacher, Suiyen Smith, from the World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles, California, the school has produced her written and directed work entitled "Aaaarght". It was a tremendous highlight!

This production was aimed at challenging the status quo regarding the question, "What is art?" It went on to discuss the challenges artists / dancers / singers are faced with when practicing their craft including, rejection, time, failure and opinions of others, just to name a few. The play concludes with the idea that art, music, dance and drama are not created merely for recognition or applause, but because those who create it do so out of a need to express passion.

The students worked long hours to put this on stage, a stage created from scratch! Students were joined by a few of their teachers who also took to the stage in comic delight. Several dances and scenes were also directed by cast members as well as the role of the stage manager was filled by a grade 11 pupil Katelynn Da Costa. Miss Smith intentionally develops such skills in those who may choose the arts as a career one day.

It was a wonderful journey and we look forward to seeing what will follow next year.
