Top 16 Country Wide!

olwethu2Olwethu Katoo, a grade 12 student from GLA, recently returned from Cape Town after a very successful National Acting Competition. Sponsored by KykNet and co-hosted by Bellville High school and The Arts Cape Theatre, the competition draws over 500 students each year.

After being selected in the national top 60 in an elimination round in Port Elizabeth, Olwethu and her drama teacher, Ms. Suiyen Smith, were invited to the final rounds in Cape Town on 14-16 May 2015. Round 1 allows the top 60 competitors to perform a prepared monologue, round 2 sees the competition halved with the top 30 performing a prepared prose (extract from a novel) and a poem and in round 3, where the competition is reduced to the top 16, the remaining competitor participate in an audition for Binnelanders on KykNet as well as audition for an RSG radio drama after various segments of improvisation challenges. The top 8 finalists are determined by the accumulative points of all three rounds. We congratulate Olwethu on being the first GLA student to reach the top 16! We are immensely proud of her achievement and wish this talented artist all the best for her future.
