Weekend Mania!!

MuntleggingThis past weekend saw Jeffreys Bay filled with good food, good laughter and good company. Global Leadership Academy (JBay’s first high school) held an awareness weekend, suitably called Weekend Mania, at the Fountains Mall on the 20th and 21st of May and what a time it was!

The weekend kicked off with a night market held in the central courtyard of the Fountains Mall. An array of smells and aromas sifted through the air as colourful stalls filled the courtyard, selling everything from jewellery and Guatemalan crafts to real Indian curry and Mexican tacos.  There were even stalls where games could be played and for a buck or two, even the latest joke! What attracted even more people was the film festival held at the Fountains Cinema where 3 movies, including the premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean – On Stranger Tides, could be viewed for the price of one.  Movie goers were awake for most of the night trying to fit in all three movies into one evening. But they were not alone! A LAN-party saw to it that gamers from all over town were there ‘til the early hours of Saturday morning.

Steak BraaiSaturday was started with the “J-Bay’s Got Talent” variety show followed by the Amazing (G)Race.  In this event teams of 3 people had to compete against each other in a shopping race in the Fountains Mall.  Teams had to spend R250 in various stores and the team with the most shopping slips at the end of one hour won a R1000 shopping voucher at Pick ‘n Pay.  Various fundraising initiatives were active during the day while the rugby was shown on a big screen accompanied by a delicious steak braai.  Another prize up for grabs was a game drive fot 2 people sponsored by the Lombardini Game Farm.  This prize was given to the person who corrNight Marketectly guessed where a horse would leave his mark on the property in the Savuti Estate where the GLA Eco-Campus will be built.  This prize was won by Mrs. Miranda van Rooyen.

All the proceeds of the Weekend Mania will go towards Global Leadership Academy’s development of their very own Eco-Campus in the Savuti Estate.  Weekend Mania was held in conjunction with the Fountains Mall, Fountains Cinema, Compu-Camm Signs, De Viswijf Restaurant, Pick ‘n Pay, Lombardini Game Farm and Our Times without which this weekend may never have been possible.  If anyone feels that they would still like to contribute towards the development of the GLA Eco-Campus they can refer to the following banking details: Remember, we are not building Jeffreys Bay’s first high school, we are building a legacy!
